A bearing is a mechanical component that enables relative motion between two surfaces (linear or rotary) by reducing the friction that arises. In these bearings, the load is carried by the rolling element, which is either balls or rollers. The rolling- element bearings considered are ball bearings (deep groove, axial and angular contact) and roller bearings (needle, cylinder, spherical and tapered).

Couplings are mechanical components used to link two shafts (driver and driven) to transmit power. Couplings are ideally used to aid in rotating components, such as motors used to drive conveyor belts. In general couplings are of two typesthose that accommodate misalignment (flexible) and those that hold the shafts firmly and precisely without allowing any misalignment (rigid).
